Looking back into our history

We at Wells and Sons have witnessed many changes in the merchandising industry over the years.

We started with limited space, limited stock, limited methods of transport and have developed a multi-department general merchant operation. We have maintained many long term relationships with well known names in Tasmanian manufacturing and retailing. We have always supported local businesses for local people.

Organising the Henley-on-Mersey - 1932

Supporting the local and surrounding community is important to us. We have been involved with large and small local events ever since we started trading. The Henley on Mersey has always been an important date in the Latrobe calendar. We have supported this event and many like it in the municipality. All four generations of Wells have been actively involved in helping to build community and service club projects in the area.

We have stood the test of time and continue to service our huge network of customers. In 1933 we were the oldest-established trading store celebrating our 40th anniversary. With satisfied customers as our best advertisement and the motto of the day was - Fair and honest trading. Quality goods at reasonable price always.

The staff and management are very proud of the progress that has been made over the years. Vigorously maintaining our valued trading policy of honesty and fair prices we have been able to rough out the bad times and expand during the good times. We have continued to service our huge network of customers with down to earth good service and value for money. We are making use of todays technology to reach out to our customers and continue building good relationships.
